Saudis: We May Eventually Let Women Drive

Please take into consideration the exact words the king of Saudi Arabia uses in reassuring Americans that the rights of women will be expanded: ‘We MAY EVENTUALLY let women drive’, however it is not an absolute guarantee it will happen and even if it does, it won’t be happening any time soon. But, hey, at least they have given us their word. Then again, given this is the Saudis we are talking about here, I don’t think that it is worth much. Though I will admit that this is certainly a start for the expansion of women’s rights in Saudi Arabia (should the Saudis follow through with what they have promised … however I am not holding my breath), as long as women in the country and throughout the Middle East are shackled with the immeasurable burden of fundamental Islamic law, any efforts to expand their rights will be in vein.
