“MU Voice” Marquette Nickname First-Round Voting Ends Sunday

————

The Marquette community is reminded that the first round of voting to select Marquette’s athletics nickname ends Sunday. Since May 24, more than 22,000 students, alumni, faculty, staff and season ticket holders have voted using an online survey.

To vote, go to http://marquette.edu and click “MU Voice.” You will be asked to enter your MU ID number. If you do not have Internet access, call (866) 477-4004. If you have technical problems, call (877) 477-7001.

Please note that these instructions are for students, faculty and staff only. Separate instructions have been provided to alumni and season ticket holders.

The two nicknames receiving the most votes from the first slate of 10 names plus the option of a write-in will be presented to the Marquette community on Tuesday for a second vote that will be available through Friday, June 24. The nickname with the most votes in the second vote will then be presented to President Robert Wild, S.J., to be announced as Marquette’s athletics nickname in time for the university’s entry into the Big East Conference on July 1. Both votes are binding.

In addition to e-mail, voting instructions have been made available on the nickname Web site at http://marquette.edu/nickname, on the CheckMarq Web site at http://checkmarq.mu.edu for students, faculty and staff, and on the MU Connect Web site for alumni.

The Office of Homeland Security – MU Division would once again like to take this time to announce that it is officially endorsing ‘Golden Knights’ as the new nickname of the athletic sports teams of Marquette University. We also encourage students and alumni alike to write-in ‘Warriors’ as a demonstrate of protest to the academic administration. Also, please visit the Marquette University College Republicans website and vote your choice for the new nickname in the straw poll.
