Viewpoint - Democrat Witch Hunt Comes Up Short

Congratulations Democrats! You have been successful in your exhaustion of twenty-two months of the American public’s time in pursuit of the source of this supposed CIA-leak case, poured thousands, if not millions, of dollars into this investigation, and tied up numerous governmental officials from fulfilling their respected electoral duties, but you did it!

So what pray tell do the Democrats have to show for all their hard work and dedication (as if mudslinging were strenuous to them)? Karl Rove’s head on a silver platter on display in the Capitol rotunda? Or, better yet, sufficient leverage in which to pursue the impeachment of President George W. Bush on the basis of criminal wrongdoing? Not exactly. What all the efforts of Joseph Wilson and his band of anti-Dubya congressional cronies put into their smear campaign was the indictment of the chief of staff of the vice-president of the United States on a charge which has no association whatsoever with the supposed criminal act they attempted to portray the administration as partaking in.

In the words of the late-Marquette alum Chris Farley, “Well, whoop-dee-freakin’-doo!”

Then again, I suppose this is more then sufficient evidence to collaborate their claims that the Bush Administration is nothing more then a bunch of crooks, although the term ‘bunch’ is usually associated with more then one person.

I can guarantee you that within a few years time a majority of Americans will not recall what ‘Scooter’ Libby was indicted for to begin with, let alone know who he is. I would even go so far as to wage a bet that there are few within the student body of Marquette that are aware of the facts in this case.

Regardless of the way in which the biased media has portrayed Valerie Plame, she was never an undercover CIA agent. For Pete’s sake, she lived publicly in northern Virginia with her husband, Joseph Wilson, for years now! Wilson, Sen. Kerry’s former foreign policy adviser, accused Bush of purposely leaking his wife’s identity to get back at him after he vilified the administration for lying about ‘yellow cakes’ from Niger destined for Iraq.

Wilson whose moral character share more then a few striking similarities with Michael Moore and his cult following of Kool-Aid drinkers can best be described as a pompous, self-centered hack who views himself as a martyr for an unjustifiable cause. He was widely discredited by the Senate Intelligence Committee in July 2004. In fact reports indicated that Iraq sought to expand trade with Niger which would have given credibility to the administration’s argument.

‘Scooter’ Libby did the right thing in resigning this past Friday. If he is found guilty of having lied under oath, which at this point seems unlikely, then he should be charged with perjury and serve time in jail. Unlike the Democrats, I, as well as I may hope my fellow Republicans, choose not to play favorites and mitigate his actions on the pretext that “everyone” lies about politics. From the standpoint of the Democrats this would just be like sex, right? If this is the worst criminal act the Democrats can associate President Bush with then they are in a lot more trouble then even I first imagined.
